Toilets are kind of similar to the couches that you sport in your living room – sitting back and relaxing after a hard day at work on an amazing toilet has its benefits. We’ve all got to go to the bathroom, as that is merely human nature – but are we able to do so in comfort? Finding the right toilet will allow you to get the most out of your experience, which is saying a lot.
In this comparison review, we’re going to take a look at four different toilet brands. In other words, this is Toto vs. Kohler vs. American Standard vs. WoodBridge. We’ll explain each product, comparing them against one another will allow us to identify the best possible choice.
Toto vs. Kohler vs. American Standard vs. WoodBridge Comparison
Toto Ultramax
While the look of our Toto Ultramax toilet is somewhat traditional, the features that are implemented within would be anything but! Some people don’t like the look of a traditional (as in, a basic toilet with a white finish) toilet, but in this case, it’s got everything you could ever ask for. While the “Cotton White” color may be suitable for some, there are individuals out there that want to avoid a lightly colored toilet (for staining and cleaning reasons most of the time).
It’s a relatively heavy toilet, as it weighs in at just under 100 pounds (98.5 pounds, specifically). The toilet itself is comprised of “Vitreous China”, and the shape of the toilet is elongated. There is no battery requirements or anything like that, with product dimensions coming in around: 31.8 x 28.9 x 19.3 inches.
The inside of the bowl is finished with SanaGloss, to ensure that nothing will stick and stain with ease. There is also a fast flush feature implemented within this toilet (the flush valve is 3-inches wide, which is about 125% larger than traditional valves).
The trapway is fully glazed and was designed by computer, ensuring that every single measurement is accurate.
The tank height is 27 and 1/2 inches high, with a width of 16 and 1/2 inches; not the largest toilet on the market, but it also isn’t the smallest one either. It’s pretty much smack dab in the middle of everything else.
Pro’s & Con’s
The toilet itself is quite affordable and offers up the ability to work in just about any home. Some people may not see eye to eye with the color choice, but all of the other features implemented within (SanaGloss, Fast Flush, sturdy materials) are definitely pro’s.
In regards to the con’s that are associated with this toilet, there’s really only the elongated shape and color that some people seem to dislike. In that case, it’s going to come down to personal preference anyways, so those are very small con’s to be had. Regardless, this is a solid toilet option for anybody looking to purchase one at this time!
KOHLER Tresham
The design of this toilet is immaculate, and it’s something that I noticed right away. When I can tell that a toilet looks great, it’s going to keep me interested; which is why I’m such a big fan of KOHLER appliances. In this case, this toilet is offered in many different color options – think of your average white, all the way down to a lighter (and the even darker option of) gray.
The bowl shape of this toilet is elongated, and the sitting area is placed relatively high up; when you’re an adult, standing up and sitting down on the toilet doesn’t need to become a chore.
All of these toilets feature “WaterSense”, which allows them to meet the incredibly strict EPA flushing requirements that are put in place for these products. They use about 20% less toilet than their competition (compared to other 1.6 gallon toilets).
There is also an “AquaPiston” present that allows the water to be distributed into the bowl from all sides, as opposed to just one – this gives the toilet more cleaning and flushing power.
The incredibly durable and effective canister design that they’ve used with this product was created with a leak-free experience in mind; when compared to other 3-inch flappers on other toilets, this one has 90% less exposed seal material. The product itself has received stellar reviews online, and that alone could be enough to tip you off (in regards to the quality) – if the user reviews are talking about the product in a positive light, you’re usually good to go!
Pro’s
- The WaterSense feature allows you to save on water when flushing
- Comfort Height feature implements the most optimal seating angles around for adults
- The toilet is available in a variety of colors
- Incredibly durable and long-lasting in regards to the material
- AquaPiston feature allows your bowl to stay squeaky clean!
Con’s
- Can be considered expensive when compared to some of the other cheaper options out there (then again, quality is going to cost you!)
- Might be seated a little too high for those adults out there that are “vertically challenged”
American Standard Champion
American Standard is a company that is well-known for the quality of their toilets, but does that follow suit with this particular product? This toilet is an ADA elongated one piece, meaning there aren’t any additional pieces to be considered – it’s all put together in one big piece already. The seat isn’t included, but that’s where you get to show your creative side by buying your own.
The toilet has an EverClean surface implemented within, to ensure that stains and odor-causing bacteria aren’t going to run rampant in your washroom.
Mold and mildew aren’t going to grow with ease, and as long as you’re diligent about keeping your toilet clean, you should be able to have it spotless almost all of the time. Will a late night taco run call for some concern in that regard? Probably, but the EverClean finish is there for a reason!
The toilet is comprised of Vitreous China, a popular material choice within the toilet industry. American Standard has built a solid reputation with their products and it could even be considered the most popular toilet brand within the United States. The toilet has already been flush-tested within the factory, to ensure that everything works as intended.
The toilet weight of this item is 119 pounds, which is much heavier than the previous two toilets that we’ve taken a look at. It’s more than likely due to the fact that this toilet is only one large piece of Vitreous China, but maybe they just chose to build them sturdier.
The toilets are floor mounted and sport products dimensions of 29.8 x 17.8 x 29.5 inches.
The water consumption levels are 1.6 GPF, with a Siphon Jet flush type implemented within. This is one of the most reliable porcelain-based toilets on the market right now, and despite the weight, it’s still a solid option for just about any household.
Pro’s
- The toilet is reliable and was manufactured with sturdy materials
- The Everclean feature ensures that your bowl isn’t going to stink or look less than desirable
- Elongated shaped for maximum comfort
- Siphon Jet flushing system
- 4-inch Accelerator Flush Valve
- 2-3/8-Inch Siphon Trapway
Con’s
- Is a little too large for some people, although that is still a case of personal preference
Woodbridge T-0001
If you wanted to take your toilet into the modern era, this is definitely the way to go about doing it. Not only is this an elongated toilet, but the creative look that this toilet has to offer is simply astounding. The look alone could be enough to warrant a purchase!
Woodbridge is yet another popular toilet production company, but they are more known for producing toilets that would look great in the modern home. They want to stray away from the traditional look and go for something a bit more “futuristic”.
The flush button on this toilet is rectangular, which is an odd shape, but in this sense, it is looked at as a creative design feature. It’s an incredibly clean and sleek looking toilet, one that also happens to sport the Siphon Jet flushing system. It’s very quiet, yet powerful – there is almost nothing on this planet that the toilet couldn’t flush (within reason, of course).
The all-in-one packaging gives you just about everything you would need to get the toilet set up as well, including the likes of floor bolts, installation instructions, and even a pre-installed toilet seat! Wax rings are always present. This is modernized and decked out a toilet, but how does it stack up against the competition?
Pro’s
- The look of this toilet is simply immaculate, and it’s probably the best-looking toilet on this list (by far)
- Woodbridge is a very reputable brand when it comes to toilets
- There are many useful features present, such as the Siphon Jet flushing system
- Easy to clean through a thoroughly planned out inner bowl design
- High in quality in just about every single way possible
Con’s
- Isn’t always going to fit with the look of older homes, may need to be used for strictly newer houses
Conclusion
When you take a look at all 4 of these toilets, many of them are going to offer you the same thing: the ability to go to the bathroom.
If you aren’t looking for anything too crazy, you may want to go with one of the more traditional options (like the KOHLER Tresham Comfort Toilet or Toto Ultramax).
If you’re feeling a bit froggy and want to leap, you could always shoot for the more creative and modernized version of a toilet in the Woodbridge T-0001 Dual Flush Elongated Toilet.
